Wish Book for the Children’s Hospital
Development staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital had been sending conventional annual appeal letters to donors for years—and getting a decent response. But they wanted more—to increase donations, and to forge a stronger emotional bond with their donors. We collaborated with physicians and staff to create the Wish Book—an illustrated gift list that describes items outside the budget that will make a significant difference at the Children’s Hospital. Offering potential donors a direct and specific understanding of how their dollars work to ease the pain of a sick child proved to be extremely persuasive. The response to the Wish Book has been enthusiastic and it has become an annual direct mail and web-based fundraising tool.
